While we were visiting his family Daddy was busy at home going to school, doing his internship, and studying for finals and for the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards exam. This last exam is a test that allows you to go and get a license to practice massage therapy if you pass. No one at school was worried about Daddy passing. He wasn't really worried about it either, but he studied like he was. Before going to take the exam he changed into some nicer clothes and made sure he had everything he needed (two forms of ID, etc.). He had 2 1/2 hours to take the exam. After about 1 1/2 hours he called to let me know how he did. In order to pass the test you had to get a score of at least 630 points. My dear husband did amazing! We aren't completely sure how many points total were possible but he recieved 745 points!! Now he is taking his finals for the rest of his classes and then he will take his transcripts and score report for the Federation test to become an LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist).
FYI: Each state has different requirements for massage therapists. There are two main tests that states will recognize; one is the Federation and the other is the National. From what we have heard fewer states accept the Federation, but the one we currently live in does. It is also supposedly a little easier than the National test and so after Daddy finishes his Master course (he will start in October and finish in December) he will take the National test as well so it will open up a lot more states for us to possibly move to. Also, there are more states who are switching from the National to the Federation so having both is a great insurance of future work. Some states don't accept either test and have their own test you must take. So there are a few places we would not be able to work in the US but the state we most want to settle in will be covered by at least one of these tests.
