Choking and Roasting

Tonight we had a great family night after Daddy came home from school. (He did great on his finals today, by the way.) He called on his way home as usual and confirmed that pasta and grilled chicken sounded good for dinner. I emptied the ash out of our charcoal grill and threw in some new charcoal. I didn't use enough lighter fluid the first time I tried to get the coals burning (it's a fear of some exposion happening after using lighter fluid) but learned I was being too cautious and had it looking good on the secon try. When Daddy got home he took over the grill and played with Tink while I went inside to start the pasta and veggies. I came out to watch them playing. Daddy introduced Tink to her shadow and they danced with their shadows for a while. Then they played a combination of soccer/baseball/golf. Tink had gotten a small inflatable soccerball from the family reunion and was playing with a wiffle bat and swinging at the soccerball. Sometimes she hit it pretty good and other times she would swing a few times without making contact. Daddy tried to coach her a bit and was telling her to move her hands to a better position. He automatically told her to "choke up on the bat" and she immediately obeyed and coughed right on the bat. She never questioned why Daddy wanted her to "choke" on the bat she just immediately obeyed. We will try to get a video of this when we get our camera.
After dinner the coals in our charcoal grill were still hot so we grabbed the marshmallows we bought just for this reason and roasted marshmallows. Tink sat on Daddy's lap and helped him start the first marshmallow. She thought it was so much fun she went and grabbed one of the sticks Daddy prepared for marshmallow roasting and grabbed a marshmallow and did a great job putting the marshmallow on the stick and then went straight over to the grill (but not too close) and roasted her own marshmallow. She had a fun time eating it too, but I think it was a little too messy for her liking. She seemed to especially enjoy roasting them even more than eating them. Then we looked at the stars again and sang "Twinkle Twinkle" per request from Tink. We could see that Tink was getting tired so we waved and said goodbye to the stars and went inside for a much needed shower. Right after the shower we read scriptures, said a family prayer, and Tink went right to sleep even without me sitting next to her.

I'm glad he did good on his finals. Kids can be so cute. I love the choking story!
