Tink has been one of the lucky babies who are blessed to have a ton of ear infections. The last ear infection she had lasted about two months. We tried a variety of antibiotics and none of them worked. We finally tried an antibiotic that is given not orally, but in three shots - one a day for three days. She was a trooper. She still was so good for the doctor and let him look in her ears, but cried when she heard the extra knock on the door and the nurse would walk in. Once we got rid of that ear infection we took her ack to the doctor the next week to check her hearing. This was just as a precuation because her speech is great and she always responds to us when we talk to her. When we went back we learned that she in fact is not hearing out of her left ear. The doctor then did a test to see how much vibration is being picked up by her ears. That test showed that neither ear was recieving any vibration. The doctor was actually surprised that she was hearing out of her right hear after he performed the second test. He said there is still a lot of fluid in both ears. We have an appointment with an ENT on Friday to see if he thinks we should put tubes in her ears and if that will help her hearing. Daddy lost hearing in his left ear when was little but this is not supposed to be hereditary. I am starting to wonder about that. Daddy and I think/hope that once the fluid drains from her ears she will be able to recieve the vibrations and hear again. If not at least we have a good background with "Signing Time."
